We’re usually pretty good at knowing what to say to someone we love. Give yourself a break. You’re doing your best. Of course this is hard. But when we’re the ones struggling? Somehow the rules change.
This February, The Inner Canvas: From Me, With Love is turning some of that kindness back toward ourselves. We’ll explore self-compassion, the ways we talk to ourselves during difficult moments, and what it might look like to offer ourselves the same patience and care we so readily give to the people we love.
Through guided grounding and visualization, journaling, and therapeutic art response activities, we’ll get creative with what compassion can actually look and feel like. One of our activities, What I’d Give a Friend, will invite you to explore the difference between how you respond to yourself when you’re struggling and what you would offer someone you care about in the very same situation. Then we’ll use words, colors, symbols, and doodles to bring a little more of that kindness onto our own side of the page.
Led by Lauren Morales, LCSW, this 90-minute creative drop-in includes plenty of room to reflect, make, experiment, and optionally share with other young adults who get it. No art experience required. Bring whatever supplies you have nearby and a willingness to be maybe 5% nicer to yourself. We’ll start there. 💌
