Cancer can bring a whole spectrum of emotions, sometimes several at the exact same time. You can feel grateful and angry, hopeful and scared, relieved and exhausted, or discover that “I don’t even know what I’m feeling” is the most accurate answer you have.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, this May edition of The Inner Canvas: Color Me Emotional is making room for all of it. We’ll explore how we recognize and experience emotions, what happens when feelings overlap or contradict one another, and how creativity can help us express things that are difficult to put into words.
Through guided grounding and visualization, journaling, and therapeutic art response activities, we’ll experiment with color, shape, line, movement, and imagery as different ways to explore our emotional worlds. We’ll get curious about our personal associations with different feelings and use creativity to give some of those feelings space on the page, no perfect words required.
Led by Lauren Morales, LCSW, this 90-minute creative drop-in gives you room to reflect, experiment, create, and optionally share with other young adults who get it. No art experience required, and there’s no “right” color for any feeling. Bring whatever supplies you have nearby and see where your creativity takes you.
