In Unspoken Ink, one of our most popular programs here at Cactus Cancer Society, our participants write in response to prompts, ranging from pictures to quotes to poetry. We are proud to share the work of our writers here on our blog, including this piece, which is part of a series entitled Fresh Ink.
We value the voices of our community members and would love to share your words. If you would like to contribute to our blog here at Cactus Cancer Society, please email christina@cactuscancer.org.Â
A Piece by Tara
What are men to rocks and mountains? They say that men built these cities. The skyscrapers which loom above our heads, blocking the light from our path. There is beauty in the old buildings. The ones with all their stature and fortitude. Part of me loves them. That part that sees the history of great minds, of lives lived before my own. But that part grows smaller as I age, as I learn.  It tells me that those great men got great by keeping others down. They built a system where they could thrive and grow and block the sun from others paths. But creativity of spirit and of mind are to be treasured. Can we raise anew from the cities built eras before? No. Not as we are. Not yet.
