Lacuna Loft was honored to attend the Young Women’s Breast Cancer Program’s (YWBCP) Annual Symposium held by the Siteman Cancer Center. Â Dozens of young women attended and many of them for the second, third, or fourth year! Â I asked many of them why they return and each woman responded the same way…they all loved the community and camaraderie that the YWBCP’s events create. Â Each woman found that connecting to other young survivors was a extremely helpful part of her recovery and fight.
I have found this to be true as well. Â No matter what kind of diagnosis, speaking to another young adult cancer survivor is immediately a far more intimate experience than just speaking with another young adult. Â The challenges young adult cancer survivors face are numerous and it always feels comforting to me connecting with someone else who knows exactly what I’ve been through.
Though I am not a breast cancer survivor (I had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma), it was a really lovely event to attend. Â If there are any young survivor events near you, I strongly encourage you to find the courage to go…even if you don’t know anyone else there! Â What’s more, it was awesome being able to talk about Lacuna Loft with such a fabulous group of women.
If you are in the St. Louis area and are a young breast cancer survivor, you can see all the information for the YWBCP here.
