Start A Wishlist Registry!

Are you a young adult dealing with cancer or long term illness, as either a patient or a caregiver?  Do you have a couple of things on a wishlist that you’d love receiving as gifts?  Would these items help out your day to day life, make things more comfortable or easier for you?  You can start a wishlist registry here on Lacuna Loft!  (Note:  if the things that you want are all on our shop, click here)

As a patient or caregiver, your story is important and but it is hard to always need to repeat all of the details to everyone who asks.  By detailing it all here, you are doing one more thing to help make your life just a little easier.  All of your needs and wishes can be kept here and easily shared with everyone you love and who loves you…without the need to repeat yourself over and over.  🙂

Here’s how it works!

Email info(at)lacunaloft(dot)com with a list of items that you would like, along with a picture and bio of yourself (or whatever information you would like to share).  The items can be things already found in our shop, or you can look around the web and pick out whatever you want (or a mixture of both)!  If you have a fundraiser with www.giveforward.com, tell us and we can add that link to the rest of your wishlist.  You can even add items like, “send me a card once a week” or “come over and do my dishes.”  Then, we will create a page just for you that has your picture, bio, and your wishlist registry with all of the items that you chose for your wishlist.  We will email you back with the url for your page and you’re in business!  Just share your page with your social network.  And voila!  You can now communicate all of your needs with your friends and family!  Your loved ones no longer need to guess about what you might need or appreciate because all of your wishlist items will be added to your very own wishlist registry.

What is also great, is that the wishlist will work just like a registry!  Once something is purchased, it will no longer show up on your wishlist!

Here is an example of what my wishlist registry might look like!

The items in the shop will appear just as any normal item would…you can click on the item to read a description, and add that item to your cart.  Easy peasy 🙂

Our Kits!

Here at Lacuna Loft, we have a variety of products available to you in our online shop.  Everything from accessories to cancer care kits.  We thought we’d take the time today to explain some of the thought that went behind all of the great things found inside of each kit!

The Chemo Start Up Kit:

The chemo start up kit contains everything that I (Mallory) found really helpful during chemo.  My mother in law spent hours combing the interwebs (that is what my husband and I jokingly call the internet haha) looking for items that I might find useful during the months when I was undergoing chemo treatments.  She was shocked to find that there wasn’t a one stop place to find everything!  She had to look all over the place and then run around town buying all of the items.  Here is what you can find in your Chemo Start Up Kit and why each item is nice to have around during chemo:

[list type=”like”]
[list_item]Queasy Pops® – These fun suckers help sooth a queasy stomach…plus if you have a funny taste in your mouth that just won’t leave, they help fix that too![/list_item]
[list_item]Gatorade® mix – I found it hard staying hydrated during chemo…but also felt awful whenever I became dehydrated.  Gatorade mix helped that enormously![/list_item]
[list_item]Biotene® Dry Mouth Toothpaste – Immediately after my first round of chemo, normal toothpaste made my mouth feel like it was on fire.  This dry mouth toothpaste was so much gentler.[/list_item]
[list_item]ChapStick® – My lips and mouth were always tender after a round of chemo…and for the next few days usually.  Having chapstick on hand was really helpful in relieving some of that discomfort.[/list_item]
[list_item]to-go Purell® Instant Hand Sanitizer pumps – Hand sanitizer was always in our house for visiting guests and for use around town.  I think it made my husband feel better that at least everyone’s hands could always be clean when I was more susceptible to bugs.[/list_item]
[list_item]Easy Origami book and origami paper – I found it very difficult to read during chemo even though reading had been one of my favorite, calm hobbies.  Small, relatively uncomplicated activities like coloring and origami because my favorite chemo activities.[/list_item]
[list_item]puzzle books – Another great thing for chemo![/list_item]
[list_item]high grade plastic silverware – Chemo often leaves a metallic taste in your mouth.  I found that eating with plastic silverware greatly reduced this annoying flavor.[/list_item]
[list_item]Aveeno® Moisturizing Bar – My normally dry skin became even more temperamental during chemo treatments.  Using this soap helped sooth irritation and the scent was always agreeable.[/list_item]
[/list]

The Cozy Comfort Kit:

I found chemo treatments to be a long and uncomfortable time.  I was often in the hospital all day, chemo lasted as many as 8 hours, and the chemo room was always cold….let’s not even talk about the infusions of chemo drugs and the nausea.  Over the course of my first few treatments I started figuring out what items made the chemo day (and my time at home in between) just that much more comfortable 🙂  Here is what you can find in your Cozy Comfort Kit and why each item is nice to have around during chemo:

[list type=”like”]
[list_item]cozy, no slip slipper socks – I always liked taking my shoes off during chemo.  I often curled up under a blanket or two during my hours spent in the chemo room and it was nice to have some cozy socks to put on once my shoes came off.  I wore/wear socks like this around my house too![/list_item]
[list_item]handmade infinity scarf – The room where I received chemo treatments was always a little cold.  That summer I usually found my house to be cold, along with most airconditioned public places.  Having a scarf on hand was always helpful.  Infinity scarves were my favorite.  There was never an end to accidentally unwrap itself and fall somewhere it should not be, and the scarf could alternatively be wrapped around my head![/list_item]
[list_item]Aveeno® Moisturizing Bar – This was the perfect soap for me during chemo.  Its scent wasn’t too strong and it didn’t irritate my skin either.[/list_item]
[list_item]puzzle book – Puzzle books were some of my favorite items to have on hand during chemo.  I could work on them despite the coming and going of lots of people around me.  I also used them a lot at home when I had had my fair share of movies or tv for the day.[/list_item]
[/list]

So, what do you think?  Are there any other items that you liked to have around during chemo treatments?  Would you buy a cancer care kit for a friend?
