How The Sun Sees You

Have you seen this video where people see their faces through a UV camera?  Have you ever wondered how the sun sees you?  Or more importantly, what your skin actually looks like?  A UV camera can “show not yet visible changes to the skin.”  The short video is enlightening.  Most adults have skin damage visible to the UV camera.  Glass and sunscreen block UV though…so glasses and sunscreen look black through the UV camera.

The video unveils a more honest look at how damaging the sun actually is (even without a sunburn).  How the Sun Sees You is a great video…watch it!  🙂

Moral of the story:  Wear Sunscreen!

Become a part of this conversation.  Spread awareness of skin cancer prevention.  WEAR SUNSCREEN!

Purple For A Purpose

I am not really a girly girl – I don’t paint my nails or accessorize my outfits or style my hair or wear makeup. Usually, that is. But recently I saw a campaign to show support for lung cancer patients that involves painting ones toenails purple.  So I borrowed some nail polish from a friend, and did this to my toes:   It’s a message for anyone dealing with a serious illness – I support you.

I know this is a small gesture, and it’s purely symbolic.  But small things can matter, and if this matters to someone, then I’m glad to do it.

How do you support those you love with cancer?

I can't believe I am putting a photo of my toes online

I Seem To Have Cancer Today

This woman, Jennifer Glass, took her fight and her survivorship into her own hands by taking a picture a day for a whole year following her diagnosis with Stage IIIB Lung Cancer.

You can see more of Jennifer Glass on her youtube channel and you can read more about her here.  In another one of her videos she describes how she quickly learned to delegate tasks to try and control her cancer diagnosis.  To take her strengths, and the strengths of her friends, to help out in a difficult situation.

Jennifer uses her writing and her pictures as a way to try and make her uncontrollable cancer diagnosis more controllable.

How do you do this?  How do you take control of something so big and uncontrollable?  How do you continue to live as a survivor?

[Tanning] Is Just Not Worth It

Straight from the experiences of a patient with melanoma.  This story is heartbreaking…it is an interesting experience to pause the video, look past the well coiffed exterior of this woman and the excellent composure of both her and her parents…and realize that she is facing terminal cancer and has only weeks to live.  She pleads with youth to stop tanning. Sharing her story is such a brave and courageous thing for her to do and so we decided to help spread her last wish…

If there is one person’s life that I can affect, then that is a beautiful gift that I could give to somebody because I don’t want them to end up like me…at all.  It’s just not worth it.
