Where We’ll Be In 2020

busy meeting

Lacuna Loft has over a dozen programs running and almost everything happens online.  That means that no matter where you live, you can join in on the great connection with other young adult cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers that happens behind our virtual doors.  I have to say ‘almost everything’ though because we do attend in-person conferences and events throughout the year and whenever we do, it is always such a delight to meet program participants in person too!  If you are attending one of the events where we’ll be, make sure you say hi!  We’d absolutely LOVE to meet you!

This year we are attending:

March-June is conference season in the oncology world and we’ll be all over the place talking about young adult cancer survivors to anyone who will listen!

Bid, Bid, Bid!

Our online auction closes Saturday, January 11th at 11:59 pm PT!  There are so many fun things to bid on from gift baskets to one-of-a-kind experiences, handmade artwork to sports memorabilia, and more!

When we decided to postpone the in-person gala, we immediately knew we needed to bring the awesome auction items online to our broader community.  Our courageous survivors are spread all around the country and the world.  Now you can share the auction with your friends and family.  All proceeds go directly to fuel our programs so have some fun along the way and grab some great stuff!

In addition to the silent auction, we also have Lacuna Loft swag for purchase.  Tees and hoodies, as well as limited-edition bags and pint glasses, are available and all proceeds go directly to supporting Lacuna Loft programs.

Get in on the action!

Tell Us Your Story!

hands

Are you a young adult cancer survivor or caregiver?  Are you ready to tell your story to help someone else who is going through what you went through?

In the middle of the night, someone out there is wondering if they are the only one who has ever gone through young adult cancer.  They are feeling alone, isolated, and wanting to feel connected to someone who understands.  You can help someone, just like you, going through young adult cancer by sharing your story.  Our contributors are courageous tellers of their stories, giving back to a community of young adult cancer fighters and thrivers.

Your story matters.

To add continually to the stories we share, we need *YOU*!  Sit down, have a virtual coffee with us, and share your voice!  When you fill out the form below, we’ll contact you with more info!

Masquerade Gala Update

Hello all!

A little bit of a different type of blog content today.  In mid-October, we made the decision to postpone the Masquerade on the Moon Gala.  While Chicago is a central location, we decided that this year we needed to embrace the community that we’ve built online over the past 5 years.  We love seeing everyone in person and hope to host a more traditional gala again next year, but until then we’ve moved the Silent Auction online!  Starting in mid-December, everyone near and far can participate in the online silent auction to support Lacuna Loft!  So many of our community members made some really spectacular items for the auction too.  We have so many great auction items and I am so excited to see us all come together!

In addition to the silent auction, we’ll also have Lacuna Loft swag for purchase.  Tees and hoodies, as well as limited-edition bags and pint glasses, will be available and all proceeds go directly to supporting Lacuna Loft programs.  Stay tuned for more updates and for your chance to get in on the fun!

Warmly,

Mallory, Founder + CEO

We’re signing off early this week and next week will be taking a very quick recovery break from programming (except for the Unspoken Ink Creative Writing Workshop and the Meditation Workshop!).  See you in November!

Dear Cancer Letter Campaign

Elephants and Tea has started their first annual “Dear Cancer” campaign!  They are currently taking submissions for their December magazine issue that will be all letters to cancer.

They want people to speak from their heart and be completely honest in their writing.  They expect these letters to be raw and emotional so do not feel that anything needs to be sugar-coated.  Their goal is to post a letter every day in December on their website and the best of the best will be featured in their December magazine (both print and digital versions).

The deadline is Friday, October 18th!

You can learn more and submit your letter here!

We’re Opening A Library! (Kind Of)

open books

Announcing the Lacuna Loft Young Adult Cancer Library!  A new initiative, the Lacuna Loft Library is our effort at upcycling our book club books!  We often receive requests for book club books after that round of the young adult cancer book club is done.  Unfortunately, we don’t keep any extra books in stock in our office so we’ve not been able to fulfill such requests.  That is all changing now!  Using the young adult cancer library, we can now easily share books with one another!

Have you participated in a book club and are ready to pass on your book?  Fill this out and a member of the Lacuna Loft team will reach out to you with where you can send your book.  Then you can place your book in the mail (we recommend media rate- this is super cheap!) and we will pass it on to another young adult cancer program participant who requests one!  This way your slightly used book can be read by a fellow young adult cancer patient, survivor, and/or caregiver.

Interested in getting a Lacuna Loft Library book that you missed out on? You can fill this out to request one!

Questions? Feel free to reach out to aerial@lacunaloft.org!
